Roland was so kind to upload the first DRAFT of the module “groupadmin” as a part of simple guide CatWalk:

This should be a simple description of CAT. We will provide more details in the Handbook.

I think this is so far a very good description! Cool!

So we will update some names when the German translation of CAT is finished.

My questions to the Teacher is:

What German name should we use for “groupadmin”?

Hers is the first DRAFT as a PDF. groupadmin (PDF) The PDF generation can be optimized though.

version 3.2.16

Version 3.2.16 is out today. This is a developer version and it is not intended to release this version. The change from version 3.2.15 to 3.2.16 was because Xavier Oswald make an upload of version 3.2.15 to the debian-edu repository. Thank you Xavier! We hope that this will happen more often in the next month to come.

version 3.2.15 upload to debian-edu

Xavier Oswald reviewed the cipux-core packages and uploaded the version 3.2.15 today to the debian-edu repository. We hope for a carefully checking to make CipUX as good as possible. The goal is to bring CipUX into debian.

Release 3.2.10

CipUX 3.2.10 release is published at “la mine” in Forbach, France. The main new feature is the XML-RPC server which provide access to the CipUX API.

The XML-RPC Server is now a Debian Package with a small test Client. It provides all CipUX command plus the additional local over socket or remote over SSL:

* login
* ping

The main goal for the XML-RPC server is the new Moodle plugin (CAT-moodle) from the French team, which will provide an other administration interface, written in PHP.

There are also new translations in French for CAT-webmin

And the CipUX Task API got new commands:
* cipux_task_tell_me_user_firstname(UID)
gives back the fist name of a given UID for a user
* cipux_task_tell_me_user_lastname(UID)
gives back the family name of a given UID for a user
* cipux_task_tell_me_user_canonical_name(UID)
gives back the hole given UID for a user
* cipux_task_tell_me_user_role
gives back the role of a given user
* cipux_task_change_own_password
which can be used with XML RPC server
* cipux_task_change_user_role
for promoting users

Gerhard Prade from the University of Bielefeld joins the team

Gerhard Prade from the University of Bielefeld, Faculty of Sociology, a CipUX administrator for several years joins the team. He would like to help in the documentation sector. At the end of July he have time to participate in the new documentation for CipUX.

CipUX Debian packages now on Alioth as release files

All recent CipUX Debian packages can now be downloaded individually from the package repository on Alioth. The following packages are available on Alioth:

CipUX 3.2.9 “Bielefeld” is out

The new CipUX version 3.2.9 is out. It called “Bielefeld” because the most work was done in the University of Bielefeld, Faculty of Sociology (due to the help of Robert Glowienka) and the new features in 3.2.9 were needed there. The new version is ready for installation from http://debian.cipworx.org. The installation guide is located at (English) http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/CipUX/Installation/3.2.9 (German, thanks to Jula Wierich) http://wiki.skolelinux.de/CipUX/Installation/3.2.9 The update manual from 3.2.8 to 3.2.9 still have to be written.

3.2.9 is a major improvement to 3.2.8. Not only bug fixes, also security enhancements should be considered so that installation or upgrade to 3.2.9 is strongly recomended.

* A new package for fat clients image deploy
- clientadmin (add computer clients)
- harwareadmin (define harware standards)
- softwareadmin (define software groups)
- roomadmin (deploy images to networks)

* Several new CAT modules:
- Roleadmin (changeing the role of users)

PHP Developer joins CipUX

Jean-Charles Siegel, a PHP coder from the French Skolelinux team, joins CipUX as a developer for the new Moodle plugins. The work will start immediately in Jarandilla de La Vera (Extremadura Spain).

A new Teacher for the Team

Ralf Gesellensetter from Skolelinux.de joins the CipUX team. He would like to have an eye on the bug tracker and may be the user forum, starting at version 3.2.9.

SVN in a working state

The migration of the CVS to Alioth SVN should be finished and the SVN is now working as Xavier Oswald reports.
