pilot’s diary
Wednesday, April 15th, 2009Today I started to repair the Blade400. First time that I opened the tail. Replaced the tail rotor shaft with a straight one (from J.P. Twister 3D Storm), replaced the main shaft, removed the flybar and ordered most of the missing parts from the UK.
Some days ago I ordered parts for my Walkera DragonFly 4 and included a pair of crystal oscilators in that order. Crystals from Walkera are not expensive but there are not many frequencies to choose from. So now that I have 2 crystals which fit together I undusted my very first helicopter, the Walkera (Coax) Lama 5#4 to find out that it still flies. Of course VERY stable compared to the others. It’s a nice sunny day, not much wind so I tried the stunt that I planned to do almost since I have this little heli: start in the livingroom, fly through the 0.9 x 1.1m window (4th floor!) and come back.
I did it & succeeded. It was very exciting and fun. outside there was some wind: the heli went right , then left , then up, then down – and for some seconds I did not see it – I had to do some steps to the window to look out & down to see that it was still in the air. Then I climbed again and flew back inside.
In the evening I flew the Piccolo in the garden. No tree-hitting this time. One unplanned trick: loosing the complete landing gear during touch & go in the grass. Landing gear ? I dont need it for flying 😉 It is so loose after all these years (I bought the piccolo is 2nd hand)
Then I tried flying backwards (tail first) which worked quite well for the first time. I started on my right side, flew ca. 10 times from the right to the left and even did 2 (backwards) half circles.
